The Newfoundland and Labrador Hydrogen Innovation Partnership (Hy-IP) is helping position the province at the forefront of Canada’s clean energy future. Focused on collaboration and innovation, Hy-IP brings together industry, researchers, government, and community partners to support the development and commercialization of hydrogen technologies.

Hydrogen is emerging as a key solution in the global transition to cleaner energy, particularly for industries that are difficult to electrify. Newfoundland and Labrador’s energy resources, strategic location, and growing clean-tech ecosystem make it well-suited to play a leading role in this space.

Through partnership-driven research, knowledge sharing, and capacity building, Hy-IP aims to strengthen the hydrogen ecosystem, create economic opportunities, and support long-term sustainability across the region.

Report: Socio-economic Benefits from Oil and Gas Industry Activity in Newfoundland and Labrador, 2018-2024

November 27, 2025 – Energy Research & Innovation Newfoundland & Labrador (ERI) released a report today highlighting significant economic and social contributions of Newfoundland and Labrador’s offshore oil and gas industry to the province.

The report, Socio-economic Benefits from Oil and Gas Industry Activity in Newfoundland and Labrador, 2018-2024, demonstrates the offshore sector’s continued role as a cornerstone of the provincial economy, supporting thousands of jobs and driving growth in Newfoundland and Labrador.

The report, authored by Stantec Consulting, also features a series of case studies highlighting companies and organizations that originated in the province or expanded their presence here because of offshore industry activity.
